TCM is a comprehensive health care system encompassing a variety of traditional therapies that have been used for more than 3000 years to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease and improve well-being. This system of healthcare takes a holistic or whole-body approach to health. Acupuncture is one of the essential modalities of TCM. Other modalities include Chinese herbology, tui na, diet and on traditional medicinal principals. An acupuncturist will take into account your whole self, not just at your symptoms, in order to get to the root of your health concerns.

Acupuncture and TCM promote natural healing. During your first exam, your practitioner will take a detailed health history and a physical exam including pulse and tongue diagnosis, and provide you with your unique treatment plan.

Questions are asked regarding your symptoms, eating, exercise, sleep habits, and emotional states - anything that may offer insight to your health.

Gathering this information enables the practitioner to effectively diagnose and detect any specific imbalances of Qi (pronounced "chee"), which is the body's natural energy or life force, that may have contributed to your health concerns.
